Mineral

Skin Benefit

Mineral pigment that gives Marbled Charcoal its dark marble effect. The color is intentional.

Spiritual Benefit

Earth pigments worn on skin since prehistory; Indigenous Americas, Africa, and Australia all used mineral color in body adornment.

The record

In use for 100,000+ years

Origin

Mineral earth, the same oxides that color ochre cliffs and canyon walls.

Harvested

Mined as colored earth, washed, ground fine, and purified.

Cultural impact

Ochre is humanity's first pigment. The oldest known art and body paint, from Blombos Cave onward, is iron oxide on skin and stone. Painting ourselves is older than history.

Traditional use

Body paint, ceremony, and sun protection across nearly every early culture, and the honest mineral color in cosmetics ever since.
