Understanding Shower Rotations
I keep three bars in my shower because I like having a choice that makes sense for the day I’m having.
Some days I’ve been working out or building something in the workshop. Other days I’ve barely left the house. Sometimes the shower is how I get going. Sometimes it’s where I finally slow down.
That’s what we’re building with Black Altar. Handmade three-bar rotations, with a different job for each bar: Daily, Scrub, and Soothe. You don’t need to use all three in one shower. You choose the one that makes sense for you.
Daily: keep it simple
Our Daily bars are the smooth, everyday cleanse, with no more than two added ingredients beyond the soap base.
I reach for one when I want to keep things simple. It can be an easy day or an active one. Getting sweaty doesn’t automatically mean your skin needs exfoliation. Sometimes a straightforward wash is exactly what you want.
Scrub: texture when you want it
Our Scrub bars bring textures like oatmeal or poppy seeds for occasional exfoliation.
Cleansing and exfoliating do different things. Exfoliation removes dead cells from the surface of your skin, and it isn’t something everyone needs. The American Academy of Dermatology says how often you exfoliate depends on your skin and the method you use. More aggressive methods call for less frequent use.
That’s why Scrub has a place in my rotation without being my everyday bar. I pay attention to how my skin feels. A busy day isn’t a reason to scrub skin that’s already feeling irritated.
Soothe: take the softer option
Our Soothe bars offer a soft lather for the showers I want to take my time with. The day is winding down, there’s nowhere else I need to be, and I can enjoy those few minutes.
It’s still a cleanser. Moisturizer has its own job afterward. If your skin feels dry, the AAD recommends applying moisturizer while your skin is still damp.
A little intention, every day
Choosing a bar is a small way of paying attention. How does my skin feel today? What do I need as I begin my day? How do I want to feel as I close it?
That’s the part I care about. Making something we already do feel a little more considered, a little more enjoyable. A shower worth being present for.
We’re a shower company. The bars are how we bring that idea into your home.
