The ten minutes nobody can take from you

No one tells you how to shower when you’re growing up, and over the centuries the tradition of cleansing became just another thing you’re supposed to do. But cleansing should be more than that. Cleansing is more than that. It’s a moment of peace from the world where you’re the most present and able to live in the now. That moment of presence has a name, enlightenment.

The power of water

The water is the one place you quietly start to reflect inward. Most people assume it’s just shower thoughts, but it’s the absence of noise that allows you to exist in the now. Think about it this way, when you’re cleansing, you’re in a routine that you do without thinking. Nothing outside the shower matters because you’re goal oriented and not time oriented, which opens your mind to focus inward.

Why some don’t feel it

Some have never felt the shower clarity because most days we rush. We walk in overstimulated and under-rested, or think of the shower as a simple transition from one thing to the next. We step out clean but still carry everything else right back into the day. And even if you’re reading this and thinking, “this is bullshit,” I say next time you shower, change one thing.

The one small change

The shower might be the only part of your day where nobody needs anything from you. The door is closed, and no one is grading you. Here’s how to actually use it:

  • Leave the phone on the counter. No playlist, no podcast, no plan.
  • Walk in with nothing, and stand under the heat for a moment before you reach for anything.
  • Pick up the bar and notice it. The weight, the scent coming up, the lather.
  • Don’t try to fix anything. Stay there for a few minutes with nowhere to be.
  • Let the rinse be the part of the day that’s yours.

What happens when you do

You do something most adults have only done as a child, exist in the present. It can be harder to understand what is best for yourself when you only exist in future moments that have not arrived. This causes so many to lose sight of what they originally set out for when they finally get it. Being present is how you heal spiritually.

We made bars for this

It’s the reason we make our soap the old way. Cold-process and small batch, with the good things left in instead of stripped out. Not to get you clean, that part’s easy, even bad soap does that. We make it to give you a reason to slow down, something that smells like nature and feels like comfort. The belief that comfort in your own skin is the first step to being present. We make our bars to turn your shower into the cleansing ritual that most forgot.

The part of the day you protect

Do it again tomorrow, and the day after. At some point it stops being a shower you take and becomes the part of the day you protect. You step out a little lighter than you walked in, settled instead of stripped. Nothing’s fixed, but the noise is quieter, and you show up for the rest of your day instead of dragging it behind you.
